Stefan Sporsén, born 22 July 1965 in Gothenburg, Sweden, is a Swedish musician, composer, arranger, and bandleader known for his work as a trumpeter, pianist, and musical director across pop, rock, jazz, and television. He grew up with music in the Gothenburg area, where his early exposure to classical and jazz traditions laid the foundation for his later diverse career. Sporsén was a longtime member of Håkan Hellström’s band from its inception in 2000 until 2023, appearing on multiple albums and major tours and helping shape the group’s distinctive sound. Alongside his bandmates, he co-founded the ensemble Augustifamiljen, which served as the house band for the Swedish TV quiz show På spåret for many seasons, with Sporsén often acting as musical director. An experienced composer for screen and stage, Sporsén has written music for Swedish television dramas, films, and theatrical productions, and has collaborated with artists such as The Tallest Man on Earth, José González, and Veronica Maggio. More recently, he has focused on his own jazz projects, including the Stefan Sporsén Quartet, blending jazz tradition with contemporary influences. Sporsén’s work bridges genres and formats, making him a respected figure in Sweden’s contemporary music scene both on stage and behind the scenes.
